Meet our Pastors
Ps. Edith has a heart to share the gospel and uplift the community. She is involved in the broader life of the church and has devoted her life to God and the church. She is truly called of God and a spiritual mother to all.
Today, Ps. Jason is involved in working with the younger generation at church and has become part of taking the church closer to fulfilling the God-given vision.
What we believe
Statement of Faith
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament in their original writings as fully inspired of God, and accept them as the final authority for faith and life.
We believe in one God eternally existing in three pesrons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.
We believe that God created man in His own image; that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual; and that all human beings inherit a sinful nature; which issues (in the case of those who have reached moral responsibility) in actual transgression involving personal guilt.
We believe that Jesus died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice according to the Scriptures, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
We belive that the Lord, Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances - Baptism and the Lord's Supper - to be observed as acts of obedience and perpetual witness of the cardinal facts of the Christian faith; that Baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as a confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection, and that the Lord's Supper is the partaking of bread and wine as symbolical of the Saviour's mutilated body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death till he comes.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ, as His ascension into heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.
We believe in the personal return of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
We believe that all who receive the Lord, Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
We believe in the resurrection both of teh just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal banishment of those who rejected the offer of salvation.
We believe that God has ordained marriage as a heterosexual relationship between a natural man and a natural woman.
Our Affiliation
Baptist Union of Southern Africa
Cornerstone Word Ministries is officially a Baptist church and is affiliated with the Baptist Union. We are fully involved in all the activities of the Union. We also apply Baptist doctrine and principles in the life of the church. Our pastors are also recognised Baptist pastors and have formal theological training.
Eastern Province Baptist Network
Along with our affiliation to the BU, we are also affiliated with the EPBN. Being in the Eastern Cape, we form part of network of Baptist churches who work together. We support and are involved with all the ministries of the EPBN. We are also part of a smaller network of Baptist churches in the Northern areas.
Immerse Network
We are an evangelical charismatic church. We accept all of Scripture and believe that it is essential for life and life. We also believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit as outlined in Scripture and make room for His ministry. Thus, we belong to a community of like-minded Baptist churches journeying together in Spirit life.
Our Founders
2012 - date
In 2012, God laid it on Ps. Randy & Edith Smith’s heart to plant a Baptist Church in Cleary Estate. This church would be a beacon to the Northern Areas. First, they met with their family at home to have services on Sunday mornings. When other family and friends caught the vision, they moved into Erica House Hall where they met for corporate worship. Even though they had only 40 members at the time, they were “driven by purpose” and the God-given vision. in 2012 they moved into their current building all by the grace and provision of God and the faithfulness of the people.
After the sudden passing of Ps. Randy Smith in 2018, both Ps. Edith Smith and the church felt God call her to continue on with the vision. She accept the call to lead the church into the future. Today, the church is established, has doubled in size, and has many ministries that reach the community.
